The purpose of this study is to analyze the mathematical concept understanding of students in class VIII-B on the topic of circles through a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) using a water wheel as a medium. The research method used was qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques through concept understanding tests and interviews. The subjects of the study were students in class VIII-B at SMP Kartika XX-1 in Makassar, who were selected based on their level of conceptual understanding. The results of the study showed that the STEAM approach through the water wheel project increased student engagement and provided a concrete learning experience in understanding the concept of circles. Students with high understanding demonstrated good conceptual ability and application, while students with low understanding had difficulty connecting concepts with practice. Secara umum, seluruh siswa menunjukkan antusiasme yang tinggi selama pembelajaran berlangsung. This study recommends the STEAM project-based approach as an effective and contextualized teaching strategy to improve students' mathematical understanding.
